Friends Records is honored to offer the first physical grooves from Jenn Wasner’s (Wye Oak) solo project, Flock of Dimes. The inaugural press is limited to 500 copies on bright orange vinyl, and will first be made available at Flock of Dimes’ tour kickoff opening for Sharon Van Etten April 19, 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland. Packaging includes a download card, and features design by Rose MF Chase with photos by Jana Hunter.
“Prison Bride” is the genre-defying dark banger that Wasner unveiled the project with in 2011, appearing prior only on cassette via the Friends Records 2011 compilation. For the new release the single has been mastered by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering, and will appear on side A of the seven inch.
Side B will house “I Can’t Tell You Why (screwed mix)”, a hauntingly beautiful take on the Eagles’ 1979 hit, also mastered by Paul Gold (Written by Frey/Henley/Schmit). While side B’s screwed mix was recorded at the Soft House in Baltimore, side A’s “Prison Bride” features production help from Mickey Freeland.
Working with her friend and co-producer Nick Sanborn (of Sylvan Esso), Wasner crafts a unique, atmospheric sound, combining electro-pop synths, guitars, and wind instruments, while tastefully altering and layering her own resonant vocals. jmand300
Thanks to all participants, especially to Jenn and Andy for sharing the compositions! This record is a bright beacon. Keep on exploring! Georg Hollinetz
Free-flowing, loosely structured songs that borrow lightly from jazz and ambient but expand in directions all their own. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 7, 2023
Gorgeous and moving, this album fills a musical void in my collection that I didn't know existed. With lyrics that speak about the human condition and instrumentals that have a medieval flair, this has become my new musical addiction 😁 Not a single note is wasted here 9RnK7
